1. Important Feeding & Watering Policy – Risk of Bloat (GDV)

I understand and acknowledge that feeding dogs immediately before or after vigorous exercise significantly increases the risk of Gastric Dilatation–Volvulus (GDV), commonly known as bloat, a sudden, life‑threatening emergency that can cause rapid deterioration, shock, organ failure, and death, sometimes within hours.

To reduce this risk, I agree to the following mandatory Pace K9 policies:

No feeding for a minimum of 1 hour BEFORE exercise sessions (2 hours recommended for large or deep‑chested breeds).
No feeding for a minimum of 1 hour AFTER exercise sessions (2 hours recommended for large or deep‑chested breeds).
Dogs will be provided controlled access to water only, including:
- Small amounts during rest periods as deemed appropriate by Pace K9 staff
- No forced or unrestricted water intake immediately before or after intense exercise

I understand that deep‑chested and large‑breed dogs are at significantly higher risk for bloat, including but not limited to German Shepherds, Great Danes, Dobermans, Standard Poodles, Weimaraners, Belgian Malinois, Boxers, Setters, and similar breeds. I acknowledge that while risk is elevated in these dogs, bloat can occur in any breed, size, or age.

2. Owner Acknowledgment & Disclosure

Required – Please check all boxes to proceed:

I confirm my dog has NOT been fed within at least 1 hour prior to today’s exercise session (2 hours for large or deep-chested breeds).

I agree that I will NOT feed my dog for at least 1 hour after the exercise session (2 hours for large or deep-chested breeds).

I understand that feeding before or after exercise significantly increases the risk of bloat (GDV), a potentially fatal condition.

I acknowledge that deep-chested and large-breed dogs are at higher risk for bloat, but that bloat may occur in any dog.

I certify that I have disclosed all known medical conditions, digestive issues, or prior bloat incidents related to my dog.

I understand that failure to follow these feeding and watering guidelines may result in refusal or cancellation of services for my dog’s safety.

3. Assumption of Risk

I acknowledge that participation in exercise activities, including treadmill/slatmill use, conditioning work, and physical exertion, carries inherent risks, including but not limited to:

Bloat (GDV)
Gastrointestinal distress
Dehydration or over‑hydration
Injury, illness, or death

I voluntarily assume all such risks, whether known or unknown, even if arising from ordinary negligence, to the fullest extent permitted by Washington law.

4. Waiver & Release of Liability

In consideration for services provided by Pace K9, I hereby release and hold harmless Pace K9, its owner(s), employees, contractors, and agents from any and all claims, damages, injuries, losses, or expenses arising out of or related to:

Feeding or watering decisions
Owner‑provided feeding instructions
Failure to follow feeding restrictions
Exercise‑related risks, including bloat (GDV)

This waiver does not apply to gross negligence or willful misconduct.

5. Indemnification

I agree to indemnify and defend Pace K9 against any claims, damages, or expenses (including attorney fees) arising from my dog’s participation in services or my failure to follow feeding and watering guidelines.

6. Emergency Veterinary Care Authorization

If my dog appears to be in distress, I authorize Pace K9 to seek emergency veterinary care. I understand I am fully responsible for all veterinary costs incurred.

7. Governing Law

This Agreement shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington.

8. Acknowledgment & Signature

I AGREE. By clicking I agree, I confirm that I have read and understand this Feeding & Watering / Bloat Risk Waiver, agree to all terms, and consent to an electronic signature.
